Ann Curry
Ann Curry, an American photographer and journalist who has reported on the natural and military disasters of more than 45 years. She focuses on the suffering of people living in these regions. Curry has reported from the wars in Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo and the Central African Republic. Ann Curry, born November 19 1956 (Agana), is an American journalist who worked as a television news anchor. Her reporting stood out for her reporting on humanitarian crisis that occurred in war-torn countries and natural disasters. Curry is the daughter of an U.S. Navy sailor and the daughter of a Japanese woman. She met her mother while living with their father during Japan following World War II. Because of her father's work in the military, they moved a lot. They eventually moved to Ashland Oregon where Curry attended the high school. The University of Oregon awarded her an undergraduate degree in journalism. Her exposure to different cultures and the experiences she had during her growing up may have influenced her empathy approach to communicating about issues of international significance. Curry's family moved frequently and Curry did not stay in one school for more than two months. Curry attended various schools which included San Diego Alameda Oregon Virginia as well as Virginia. Ashland is where she finished high school. Her path to an impressive career when she began her broadcasting career by working as an intern for KTVL Channel 10 in Medford Oregon, eventually becoming the first woman news reporter in the station's history at the aged of just 22. In Portland in Oregon, she was named anchor as well as a reporter for KGW the NBC affiliate. After four years, she was hired as reporter for KCBS TV located in Los Angeles. In her time with the channel she was awarded the award of two Emmy Awards.
